How to use this calculator

A step-by-step guide to calculating your recipe costs and setting profitable prices.

  1. 1

    Enter your recipe details

Name your recipe and enter the number of servings or units it makes, for example 24 cookies, 1 cake, or 12 cupcakes.

  2. 2

    Add ingredients with package costs

For each ingredient, enter the amount your recipe uses, then the package size and price you paid at the store. The calculator works out the cost of just the portion you used.

  3. 3

Add labor cost (hours × rate)

Enter the hours you spend on prep, baking, decorating, and cleanup, along with your hourly rate. The calculator multiplies them automatically. Most home bakers charge $15–$30 an hour.

  4. 4

    Add overhead

Choose a flat dollar amount ($1–5 per batch is typical) or a percentage of your ingredient cost (10–15%). This covers packaging, electricity, gas, and supplies.

  5. 5

    Review your cost breakdown

See exactly where your money goes across ingredients, labor, and overhead, and use it to spot ways to bring your costs down.

  6. 6

Set your profit margin and get your price

Adjust the profit margin (50–100% is standard for baked goods) to see your suggested selling price per serving and total profit per batch.
