Ingredients

For meat marination

  • 1 pound meat cut into small pieces/slices
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper or black paper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or any cooking oil

For the sauce

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar brown or white
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper or black paper
  • 2 teaspoons oyster sauce
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup

Other ingredients

  • 4 medium tomatoes cut into large slices
  • teaspoon of cornstarch
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 3 scallions green onions (cut into 1-inch pieces, separate the white stems and leafy tops)
  • 2 cloves of garlic minced
  • 3 to 5 tablespoons of butter or olive oil
  • ¼ to ½ cup cold water

Instructions

  • Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, add the beef and all the marinade ingredients. Mix well and let it rest for 1 hour.
  • Prepare the Sauce & Slurry: In a separate bowl, mix all sauce ingredients and set aside. In a small cup, mix cornstarch with water until smooth (no lumps).
  • Cook the Beef: Heat a pan over medium-high heat with butter or olive oil until just smoking. Add the marinated beef and fry for 1 minute, stirring continuously. Add ½ cup tomatoes, ⅓ cup red onions, and the white stems of the green onions. Stir-fry until the beef is 95% cooked, then remove from the pan.
  • Sauté Aromatics & Sauce: In the same pan, add more butter or oil. Add garlic and remaining onions; stir-fry for 1 minute on high heat. Add remaining tomatoes, leafy green onion tops, and prepared sauce. Stir for 40 seconds.
  • Combine & Finish: Return the cooked beef to the pan. Add the cornstarch slurry and mix well. Let cook for 30 seconds or until the sauce thickens.
  • You’re Done! Serve hot with steamed white rice or your favorite bread. Enjoy!
